Normally your immune system finds foreign substances, such as viruses and bacteria, and gets rid of them; this response protects us from dangerous diseases. So, if you suffer from pet allergy then you are likely to have over-sensitive immune systems. This means that your immune system reacts to harmless proteins in the pet's urine, saliva or dander (dead skin cells). The symptoms that follow are an allergic reaction. The substances that cause these allergic reactions are called allergens.

Pet allergens can collect on furniture and other surfaces, these allergens do not lose their strength for a long time. Sometimes, the allergens may remain at high levels for even several months and cling to walls, furniture, clothing and other surfaces.

If you think pet hair is an allergen too, you’re wrong! As the hair gets in contact with the allergens such as dander, urine and saliva it causes you to catch through it. Pet hair can also carry dust and pollen which could also be one of the causes of allergy.

What are the symptoms you will notice if you have pet allergy-

  • Sneezing
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Facial pain (from nasal congestion)
  • Coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and wheezing
  • Watery, red or itchy eyes
  • Skin rash or hives
  • When you inhale the allergen or come into contact with it, your immune system responds and produces an inflammatory response in your nasal passages or lungs.

Prolonged or regular exposure to the allergen can cause the ongoing (chronic) airway inflammation associated with asthma.

Get homeopathy and cuddle up with your pet freely

As described above pet allergy is related to your oversensitive immune system, conventional treatment will tell you to keep away from pet, but what if you love your pet too much and want to be with him without suffering from allergies. No worries, homoeopathy will treat your oversensitive immune system and you can live freely with your pet without any allergies. Allergy treatment in homeopathy is very effective.

You can choose to take constitutional medicines for allergy treatment. This is based on a more in-depth consultation which takes into account not only the allergic symptoms but also the patient’s individual way of coping with the disease. This may involve looking at aspects of the patient’s lifestyle, eating habits, medical history and state of mind to achieve a complete picture of the individual.

Some common homoeopathic remedies for allergies are as below but they are advisable only after taking consultation -

  • Allium cepa

This remedy is advised when nasal mucus irritates your nose or upper lip; your eyes are runny but the discharge is bland and non-irritating; you feel worse in warm rooms, and better in open air.

  • Arsenicum album

Symptoms for this remedy include stuffiness and a lot of watery nasal discharge that burns the lips; a burning sensation in the eyes, nose, and/or throat; sneezing upon waking often with a tickle in the nose; anxiety and restlessness can also be accompanied. These symptoms may release from warmth, like after hot drinks or warm bath.

  • Natrum muriaticum

This remedy is helpful, if you experience a watery or egg-white-like nasal discharge; paroxysms of sneezing; chapped lips and cracks at the corners of the mouth; dark circles under the eyes and headaches.

  • Sabadilla

This medication can be used when the allergy symptoms become worse in cold outdoor air and from pollens. Warm rooms and warm drinks can help relief the symptoms.

  • Wyethia

This homeopathy remedy can help treat your allergy symptoms of extreme itching in the throat and palate that can extend to the ears; or a sore throat with hoarseness.

Homeopathy helps you calm down over sensitive immune system and reduce the frequency of the attacks considerably.  As the allergy treatment is based on personal history it aims to treat rather than just suppress its symptoms. When considering the use of homeopathy, seek for supervision from your doctor and do not indulge in any self-medication.
