The inability to explain how homeopathic medicines work, has evoked skepticism from quite a few people in the past. However, Homeopathy is now being explained on the basis of quantum physics, bioenergetics and molecular memory. Another allegation was that homeopathic medicines with a strength above 12C acted as placebos since not even a single molecule of the original medicinal substance remained in the dilution. Now, the use of Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), a technological breakthrough, has made it possible to actually tell the amount of the medicinal substance present in homeopathic remedies and to differentiate between them in various dilutions.
With clinical trials in Homeopathy also being conducted all over the world, more and more people are opting for Homeopathy as their first line of treatment. In fact, an independent study conducted by Dr. Batra's in India found that the choice of the therapy is now mostly based on the disease. A clinical trial conducted in Athens showed that the number of patients that achieved glycaemic control under the combination of a hypoglycaemic drug along with homeopathic treatment was nearly double (97%) that of patients on the hypoglycaemic drug alone (47%). In a double-blind controlled study conducted in Britain in 1980, 82% rheumatoid arthritis patients treated by Homeopathy improved significantly. Another trial to assess the efficacy of homeopathic treatment in depression had 58% major depressive or phobic patients responding favorably to individualistically-prescribed homeopathic remedies. Patients on Homeopathy showed an average decrease of 7.2 kg and 2.3 BMI as compared to those on placebo who had a decrease of 4.7 kg and 1.5 BMI in a randomized double-blind trial conducted on obese patients in Germany in 1994. Oscillococcinum, a homeopathic preparation (of the liver and heart of a Barbary duck), was used successfully in France during the 1987 flu epidemic caused by an H1N1 virus.
These are just few of the incidences that have clearly demonstrated the efficacy of Homeopathy clinically and shown that it does work. With on-going research and development, the day is not far when we will also be able to explain how Homeopathy works.
